1 more Year of Preschool for Late-born 4 yr olds

Parents of four-year-olds who won't be five by July 31st next year, will have to pay for another year of preschool.  The state earlier this year eliminated junior kindergarten, which leaves an estimated 5,000 late-born four-year-olds waiting a year before they can enter kindergarten.  Supporters say the state is moving toward publicly funded universal preschool. Hawaii is one of 11 states without state-funded preschool. A statewide school readiness program will provide funding for about 1,000 late-born four-year-olds.
