DOH Gets Federal $ to help Oahu Homeless

The state Department of Health is getting more than $2 million to set up and run a three-year program serving at least 120 chronically homeless people.  The grant comes from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Sevices Administration and will provide housing and support services to those who are homeless while suffering from substance abuse and mental health disorders on Oahu. The program is scheduled to begin next year. According to the state, an estimated 45 out of every 100,000 residents in Hawaii are homeless.
