Governor Signs Bill to Raise State's Minimum Wage

Governor Neil Abercrombie signed Senate Bill 2609 into law Friday.  The bill, also known as Act 82, incrementally increases the state's minimum wage rate to $7.75 per hour beginning January 1, 2015. From there it will increase to $8.50 per hour beginning January 1, 2016, $9.25 per hour beginning January 1, 2016 and $10.10 per hour beginning January 1, 2018.  The bill also raises the tip credit to 50 cents per hour beginning January 1, 2015 and 75 cents per hour beginning January 1, 2016, as long as the amount the employee receives in wages and tips is at least $7 more than the applicable minimum wage, beginning January 2015.
