Kauai police are investigating threats made against Mayor Bernard Carvalho after he vetoed a bill regulating the use of pesticides and genetically modified crops. Carvalho was threatened over the phone, through email and on social media, according to Kauai Police Chief Darryl Perry. Police are taking the threats seriously. On Thursday, Carvalho announced he agreed with the intent of Bill 2491, but vetoed it because he thought it was legally flawed. The bill would have required big agribusinesses to disclose the presenc and use of pesticides and genetically modified crops.
