Another day, another scam.... Actually, it's a nationwide scam that began affecting Hawaii residents at the beginning of this month. In involves people impersonating sheriff's deputies. They call random numbers and tell the person who answers the phone there is a warrant issued for their arrest because he or she failed to show for jury duty or court. The impersonator then says he will arrest the person unless they pay a fee by phone to have the warrant cleared. Public safety officials say Sheriffs do not call people about warrants dealing with jury duty nor do they solicit any kind of purchase. If you get a call like this, report it to the Sheriff Division. Call 586-1352.
