State Will Fight Ruling in Wrongful Death Case

The state plans to fight a court ruling that found the state was negligent in the death of a Navy diver's 14-month-old baby boy. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports a judge awarded the boy's grandmother $250,000 in the wrongful death lawsuit that found the father Matthew McVeigh, and the state Department of Human Services both responsible. The toddler Brayden McVeigh died in 2009 after being struck or shaken to death. The judge found a social worker had repeatedly dropped the ball in monitoring the boy's well-being after suspected abuse and neglect.
