U.S. Attorney's Office in Hawaii Collects $2.4M

Wahiawa General Hospital agreed to pay out $450,000 to settle two lawsuits alleging improper billing, but didn't admit any wrongdoing.  That was part of the $2.4 million the U.S. Attorney's office in Hawaii says it collected in civil and criminal actions for the 2013 fiscal year. U.S. Attorney Florence Nakakuni says $1.5 million was collected in criminal actions, while $930,000 was collected in civil actions.  The U.S. Department of Justice collected $8.1 billion in civil and criminal actions in the fiscal year that ended September 30.
